I have been following Ashlea at hearthookhome.com for quite a while now, and the very first pattern I purchased from her was this Painted Canyon Cardigan pattern. It’s still my favorite pattern to date, and over the years I’ve made several cardigans!

The pattern for the adult sized cardigans is a paid pattern, you can buy it on Etsy or Ravelry or in Ashlea’s site shop. The kids sizes are free, and you can find them all here!
This pattern is written extremely well, and was even updated a year or two ago if I remember correctly! It’s a 34 page document that covers size 0-28W. I would consider it a beginner pattern, you just need to know basic stitches (and the spike stitch if you decide to use it while color changing like on my black and pink/yellow cardigan).
I love how versatile this pattern is! Ashlea has included loads of options to customize cardigans however you want! There are instructions for inside and outside pockets, and a hood versus a collar. I’ve altered this pattern for various projects, like my Unus Annus cardigan and a Sailor Moon cardigan that I made for a commission.

I used Caron Simply Soft for this Sailor Moon inspired cardigan 🙂
If you want to get started on crocheting clothing but are intimidated by it (like I was hehehe), this painted canyon cardigan pattern is a perfect one to start with!
