One of my absolute favorite cartoons as I was growing up was Ed, Edd n Eddy. I’m almost positive it shaped my humor and personality haha. As soon as I learned how to crochet I knew I needed to figure out how to make Edd’s beanie.
The basic construction is a very slouchy beanie made in double crochet, and then I wanted to go down a couple hook sizes rather than decrease stitches to make the brim. Crocheting in the back loop only for the brim adds just a little bit of a texture so the overall hat is not TOO simple. I use a sort of… loop stitch? for the white lines on either side of the hat.
I consider this to be a beginner pattern for sure! I hope I explain the stitching for the lines well, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to email me!

Rnds 10 – 25 – repeat rnd 9
Rnd 26 – With G hook (or size needed to obtain gauge) ch 1, sc in same st and in each st across (72 scs)
Rnds 27 – 30 – repeat rnd 26 in back loops only. Fasten off and weave in ends after rnd 30.
(If you want your brim to be a little wider you can add a few more repeats of rnd 26 in BLO)
To sew the lines on the sides, cut a long piece of white yarn (I use the yarn and measure the length of the hat, double that length, and then triple THAT length, make sense?). Thread it through your embroidery needle and insert it into the middle of a stitch on round 25 (see photo below).
Insert your needle from the inside out here, in the middle of the dc
Insert your needle at the bottom of the stitch and pull through
Inserting the hook from outside in where the first stitch started makes the second stitch, and so on
Repeat this all the way up the hat until you reach round 6.
Continue up the hat every 1/2 stitch until you reach the 6th round. On either side of the line of stitches you just made, start going back down to round 25.
Starting to sew back down the hat
Repeat this on the other side of the hat (directly opposite of the first two lines) and weave in your ends.
